Abstract
The advantages of using CO2-based mixtures instead of CO2 focus on improving the energy efficiency and performance of transcritical cycles, especially at high heat-rejecting temperatures. Due to the increment of critical temperature, mixtures can work in subcritical conditions, affecting the compressor's behaviour. Accordingly, this work evaluates experimentally the performance of a CO2 semi-hermetic reciprocating compressor working with six different CO2-based mixtures: CO2/R290 (96/4%w and 94/6%w), CO2/R1270 (96/4%w and 94/6%w), CO2/R32 (81/19%w) and CO2/R1234yf (96/4%w). The analysis includes the volumetric and global efficiency, the discharge temperature, the mass flow rate, and the electrical power consumption. An experimental test campaign was performed at different operating conditions for medium temperature conditions, covering three heat-rejecting temperatures of 20, 27 and 34ºC. The experimental results are compared with the standardized model from UNE-12900, proposing an alternative semiempirical model with a prediction error below 5%.
