Abstract

Currently, HFC-134a and HFC-245fa are used as working fluids for heat pump type stream generator and waste heat recovery type heat-pump. However, HFCs unfortunately have high Global Warming Potential (GWP), and thus there is an urgent need to replace them. As a result of researching Low-GWP working fluid, it was found that HCFO-1224yd(Z) has excellent properties as a heat pump working fluid.
In this study, it was to clarify the basic properties of HCFO-1224yd(Z). In addition, we examined the adaptability as a heat pump by using the equation of state reproduction of the measured value with a high degree of accuracy, such as critical constants, PVT properties, the speed of sound and specific heat. We found the boiling point of HCFO-1224yd(Z) is 15 oC, the critical temperature is 156oC, the critical pressure is 3.38MPa and the critical density is 530kg/m3.
According to a result, the physical properties of HCFO-1224yd(Z) is almost identical to R245fa, and HCFO-1224yd(Z) is also non-flammable, low-GWP substance. Furthermore, the chemical and thermal stability are better compared to R123 and other HCFOs. In addition, theoretical performance of HCFO-1224yd(Z) is the same as that of R245fa, HCFO-1224yd(Z) can replace R123 and R245fa in high-temperature heat-pump systems.
This study was undertaken to develop refrigerants in support of the "development of high-efficiency non-CFC and HCFC air-conditioning equipment technology" of the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization.
